Stepped Auger Bits
AS1085.18 (Section A3.2) suggests that Screw Spike holes should be stepped with a larger hole for the shank and a smaller hole for the threaded portion.
Stepped Augers feature both a large diameter (for the screw shank) and a smaller diameter ( for the screw thread) in the one drill.
